Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf Crowned PPC UK Main Event Champion
Dusk Till Dawn regular Waheed “Wadey” Ashraf loves playing at the Nottingham-based venue. The popular grinder has enjoyed more than his fair share of success at the home of British poker, and that success continued over the weekend with victory in the £500,000 guaranteed PPC UK Main Event.
The massive £66,271 Ashraf won for becoming this tournament’s champion is the second-largest live score of his career, and pushed him to fifth-place in the all-time money list at Dusk Till Dawn with $890,000 in accumulated prize money.

Some 1,044 players bought into the PPC UK Main Event across the various online and live starting flights. Those entrants ensured the £500,000 guarantee was beaten by £6,340.
The players who finished in the top 156 place and, therefore, in the money, read like a who’s who of the poker world, such was the tournament’s lure. Guy Taylor, David Docherty, Richard Trigg, Kully Sidhu, Christopher Brammer, Jonathan Gill, and Matthew Davenport all cashed but failed to reach the final table.
All but two of the nine finalists turned their £560 investment into five figures. A player wishing to remain anonymous busted in ninth for £7,340 before WSOP bracelet winner Ben Dobson bowed out in eighth place for a £8,750 addition to his bankroll.
The first five-figure haul of the tournament, namely £10,750, went to way of Bako Mazalahewsa before Justin Tsui and Bhavin Katri crashed out and collected £13,750 and £18,750 from the DTD cashier’s desk.
Mike Allen saw his tournament end abruptly in fourth place, which earned him a career-best prize weighing in at £26,500. Heads-up was set soon after when Ronald Musson ran out of steam. Musson’s demise in third came with a £37,500 score.
Ashraf found himself heads-up against Mitchell Johnson, a formidable player who he has battled many times at Dusk Till Dawn, online, and around the world. Johnson won a £1,100 High Roller at the end of March for £32,670 but had to make do with the £60,979 consolation prize of the PPC UK Main Event this time around because Ashraf defeated him in the one-on-one battle. The heads-up duo struck a deal such is their respect for one another.
First place came with the winner’s trophy and an impressive £66,271. Look out for Ashraf the next time DTD hosts a major live poker event, and during the upcoming MILLIONS Online KO Series.
