Raich and Moreira Take Down Grand Prix UK Knockout Events

Ivan Raich and Marcos Moreira both became Grand Prix UK champions after taking down the $109 Knockout and the $11 Mini Knockout respectively. Those victories came with plenty of kudos and cash prizes of $26,080 and $5,172, the perfect start to the festival.

Rich got his hands on the larger of the two prizes after outlasting 2,792 opponents in the Grand Prix UK #01 Knockout: $250K Gtd event. Day 2 saw the 416 surviving players from the various Day 1s return to the partypoker virtual felt, all safe in the knowledge that they had secured a slice of the main prize pool plus how ever much money they claimed from bounty payments along the way.

With bounties included, none of the seven players at the final table walked away with less than $4,000 for their efforts. Seventh-placed Harry Kidd padded his bankroll with $5,241, quite a chunk more than sixth-place finisher Ronaldas Braskus who banked $4,030. That’s the joy of PKO tournament, you can win a ton of extra money if you bust opponents.

Peter Tordai of Hungary and Denmark’s Jonathan Skovsen were the next players out of the door. They saw $7,988 and $9,691 head to their partypoker accounts; the top three finishers were now guaranteed a five-figure haul for their $109 investment.

Third-place and $12,230 went to Vojtech Skalak of the Czech Republic, whose exit left Raich heads-up against Ioannis Nanos. The one-on-one battle went Raich’s way, and he scooped a total prize worth $26,080, leaving Nanos to receive a $20,484 consolation prize.

Brazilians Dominate the Mini Knockout Final Table

Four of the seven seats at the final table of the Grand Prix UK #02 Mini Knockout: $50K Gtd were taken up by Brazilians, so it should not be surprising that one of them walked away with the lion’s share of the $61,877 prize pool.

Marcos Moreira netted $5,172 after he defeated his fellow countryman, Patrick Da Silva, heads-up, leaving the runner-up to reel in a $3,877 prize for his $11 buy-in.

The other two Brazilian stars finished in third and fifth place. Third went to Bruno Delfino who walked away with $2,642 in prize money, with Thiago Souza seeing his partypoker account balance swell by $1,023 when his impressive tournament run ended in a fifth-place finish.

Will You Become the Main Event’s Champion?

Neither Raich or Moreira are likely to compete in the £150 buy-in Main Event, which comes with £150,000 guaranteed, because it is an online-live hybrid. Day 2 takes place live at Dusk Till Dawn, Nottingham, United Kingdom, which may be a trip two far for the men calling Argentina and Brazil home. That is two fewer sharks circulating in the waters!

There are a handful of online Day 1s remaining in addition to some live Day 1s at Dusk Till Dawn. Anyone qualifying for Day 2 via an online Day 1 or who buys into a live Day 1 via one of the online holding tanks automatically enters a last longer competition that pays the ten players who last the longest.
