Joni Jouhkimainen Joins Team partypoker

3 years ago ● Rob Godmon

Joni Jouhkimainen has become the newest member of Team partypoker, joining the team as a sponsored pro. If the 26-year-old Finn’s highly successful poker career so far is anything to go by, he will make an excellent addition to the elite ranks of partypoker representatives.

Finland has a well-deserved reputation for producing legions of fearless, ice-cold poker superstars. Jouhkimainen has the credentials to stand out even among his illustrious compatriots, sitting sixth on the Finland All Time Money List after accumulating an incredible $2,466,074 in live tournament earnings. He secured his biggest live cash when he finished third at EPT Barcelona in 2012 for €404,050. He seems to enjoy life in the Catalonian capital, as his next-biggest cash came there a year later at the EPT High Roller, with a fourth-place finish netting the Finn €148,000. Jouhkimainen has joined in time to make it to the MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona...can he repeat the trick once more in the capital of Catalan culture?

Jouhkimainen hasn’t merely gone close to winning big titles, as the 13 live tournament victories on his CV indicate. Three of those 13 triumphs were secured in quick succession last summer in his home city of Helsinki, a series of results which netted the Finn over €110,000. Jouhkimainen’s most recent big score arrived just a few short weeks ago at the partypoker Nordic Poker Championships in Prague. Despite facing a highly competitive field of super Scandinavians, Jouhkimainen got to yet another final table, eventually finishing fourth for €70,000.

Jouhkimainen got his start in poker at the tender age of 15 after watching a few episodes of the World Poker Tour on TV. He was fascinated by what he saw. After a few years learning the game by playing with friends, he turned 18, walked into a Helsinki casino, and hasn’t looked back since. The Finnish player managed to make a big impression on the live poker tournament circuit almost immediately, kicking off his career by finishing sixth at the final table of the IPT San Remo Main Event for €21,400, just a few months after his 18th birthday. His consistently good results on the circuit since then mark him out as the real deal.

Over the years, Jouhkimainen has primarily focused on Pot Limit Omaha, yet he remains a formidable talent at No-Limit Texas Hold’Em. He has previously described his playing style as “typically Finnish”, combining rock-solid mathematical principles with ruthless exploitation of his opponent’s weaknesses.

One of the hallmarks of Jouhkimainen’s career has been his willingness to learn and master a variety of forms of the game. While his tremendous live tournament results speak for themselves, the Finn is also an excellent cash game player, making the majority of his poker income over the years at the online cash tables.

He has played as high as $100/$200 at online PLO cash games, more than holding his own against some of the very best players in the world. Jouhkimainen prides himself on his dedication to continually improving at both tournaments and cash games, in order to remain one of the top players in both formats. This dedication has led to a number of major successes in online tournaments, including a 2016 SCOOP title for $148,263.

Going forward, Jouhkimainen is looking forward to representing partypoker at numerous events on the partypoker LIVE tour, including the partypoker MILLIONS Grand Final in Barcelona, the city where he has enjoyed so much success in the past. He is delighted to be joining the team, especially at a time when the partypoker LIVE brand is flourishing due to its willingness to make players the number one priority.

“I’m really happy to be joining Team partypoker. All the efforts that partypoker has been making recently to put players first have made me – and many others – really happy. partypoker’s initiatives, both live and online, are really good for the whole poker community.

“The partypoker LIVE schedule for this year also seems really exciting, so I am very much looking forward to seeing what 2018 brings. I cannot wait to play live events with partypoker.

“It was nice to start off my relationship with partypoker with a great result at the Nordic Poker Championships in Prague, especially as Prague is one of my favourite poker stops every year.”

You can expect to see Jouhkimainen sporting the famous diamond patch at partypoker LIVE events all over the world very soon, a prospect that has left the partypoker Head of Nordics, Thomas Udness, very excited.

Udness said: “Joni has had a great career to date with some fantastic results on the live poker circuit. He is one of the very best players in Finland so it’s an honour that he is joining partypoker, and we are thrilled to have him on board.”
