The Grand Prix KO Summer Edition concluded with the crowning of the Main Event and Mini Main Event champions, two PartyPoker players who have now written their names into the history books. Brazilian sensation Lucas Ferreria Alves triumphed in the $109 Main Event, while Canadian star Jamie Thomson took down the $11 Mini Main Event. Combined, their payouts topped the scales at $58,249.

The $109 buy-in Grand Prix KO Summer Edition Main Event drew in a 5,212-strong crowd who create a guarantee-busting $521,200 prize pool. Some 765 of those starters progressed to Day 2, each having locked up a $110.82 min-cash in addition to any bounties they collected along the way.

By the time the nine-handed final table was reached, nobody took home less than $3,916, with bounties included. Mindaugas Kriauciunas collected that sum before Edvin Makic ($5,105), Austrian superstar Nino Ullmann (6,437), and Rodrigo Valente ($8,644) fell by the wayside.

Ukraine’s Artem Ohieenko saw his tournament end in a fifth-place finish worth $,952. The last prize not to tip the scales at more than $10,000. Will Kassouf came close to some heroics but ultimately had to make do with a fourth-place finish that saw him add $15,977 to his bankroll like a boss, as Kassouf would say.

Heads-up was set when Alf Peter Onnestam crashed out in third; the Swede banked $19,875 with bounty payments added.

Lucas Ferreira Alves and fellow Brazilian Igor Leao Versiani locked horns heads-up, with both having secured more than $29,000 from the main prize pool. Alves defeated his fellow countryman in the one-on-one battle, so added $20,449 worth of bounties to his prize, for a total haul worth $49,693. Versiani headed into the night, licking his wounds with a $31,621 consolation prize in tow.

Thomson Takes Down the Mini Main Event For Canada

It was not only the $109 Main Event that blasted through its guaranteed amount because a monster-sized field of 10,383 entrants in the $11 Mini Main Event created a $103,834 prize pool. Canada’s Jamie Thomson showcased their skills to the highest order and walked away with the lion’s share of the prize pool, namely $8,556.

Six of the final nine saw prizes in excess of $1,000 wing their way to their respective accounts. Renee Johnson ($578), Santuu Mikeal ($904), and Klaus Hans Betz ($946) may not have walked away with four-figure prizes but can be very happy with their excellent performances and their prizes from an $11 investment.

Maxim Vygonny of Ukraine won $1,213 after crashing out in sixth, while James Adams of the United Kingdom collected $1,626 when his tournament ended abruptly in fifth. Brazil’s Adalberto Jesus Souza could not make it a Brazilian one-two in the Main and Mini Main, ultimately making do with the $2,855 fourth-place prize.

Dotun Oluwakayode Lawal of the UK fell in third for $3,974 before Thomson brushed aside Karina Fregonesi in the heads-up battle to claim the $8,556 top pay out and leave Fregonesi with a $5,931 consolation prize.
